- Measure your productNote the smallest and largest item, its weight and what the bottom is like. This sets the conveyor type, width and roller spacing.
- Keep three rollers under every itemFor a smooth ride, at least three rollers or wheel rows should sit under your shortest item at all times.
- Set the right slopeGravity lines run on a slight pitch. Adjustable supports let you fine-tune it so product flows without picking up too much speed.
- Plan heights at each endMatch the infeed and discharge heights to benches, trucks or other equipment, and account for the slope over the run.
- Map the layoutMeasure the run and mark corners, columns and doors. Curves come in 30 to 90 degrees with a 36 in inside radius.
- Add stops and guard railsEnd stops, guard rails and brake rollers keep product on the line and stop it safely at the discharge end.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a gravity roller conveyor?
A gravity roller conveyor is a line of free-spinning rollers or wheels set on a slight downhill slope, or pushed by hand on a level line. Product moves without motors or power, so there are no running costs and very little maintenance.
Should I choose skate wheel or roller conveyor?
Skate wheel conveyor is lighter and lower in cost, and works well for light cartons with firm, flat bottoms and for portable lines. Roller conveyor gives a more stable ride for heavier, softer or uneven items and is the better choice for permanent lines.
What conveyor width do I need?
Choose a between-frame width a little wider than the widest item you will move. Our gravity conveyors come in 12 to 30 in overall widths in 3 in steps, which gives 9 to 27 in between the frames, and wider beds are available.
How much slope does a gravity conveyor need?
Only a slight pitch. The right amount depends on the weight and bottom surface of your product: heavier, smooth-bottomed loads need less slope, while light or soft items need more. Adjustable supports let you fine-tune it on site.
Do you supply curves, stands and accessories?
Yes. Every straight section has matching 30, 45, 60 and 90 degree curves, and we supply fixed and adjustable supports, mobile stands, guard rails and end stops to complete the line.
Do you offer powered conveyor?
Yes. Our Canadian-made motorized roller (MDR) conveyor uses 24V motorized rollers in each zone for quiet, energy-saving powered lines, with powered curves, merges and transfers.
